The Moran Lady Bulldogs volleyball team won two matches last week, including a five-setter on the road.

The Lady Bulldogs visited Gustine on Tuesday, Aug. 30. Results will be reported next week. On Saturday, Sept. 3, Moran will host Rotan.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-8) started last week on Tuesday, Aug. 23 with a 25-16, 20-25, 20-25, 25-16, 15-6 win at Class 2A Roscoe.

“That gives us a lot of momentum and helps us build endurance,” Lady Bulldogs coach Jo Hise said. “We now have confidence that we can pull through in five sets and get a win.”

The Lady Bulldogs spent the weekend at the Abilene TLC tournament. On Friday, Aug. 26, Moran lost to Woodson 7-25, 12-25, then beat Trent 27-25, 25-17 before falling to the San Angelo Central JV 6-25, 4-25 in pool matches.

“We had trouble serving against Woodson,” Hise said. “We played Trent and Woodson back-to-back.”

On Saturday, Aug. 27, Moran lost 15-25, 13-25 to Class 3A Merkel in a single-elimination bracket.

“We struggled with our serve again in that match,” Hise said.

As with Tuesday’s match, Hise said the court time accrued at the tournament was beneficial to her team.

“We definitely improved on getting three touches on pass-set-hit,” she said. “As we progressed through the tournament, we were able to do that.”
