Moran girls to play in Cross Plains

The Moran Bulldog and Lady Bulldog basketball teams get one last chance to prepare for District 13-1A play after both struggled through winless appearances at the Gordon tournament, played Tuesday-Wednesday, Dec. 27-28 over the holiday break.

Moran stepped up in class Tuesday, Jan. 3 when they visited Class 2A Olney for their final nondistrict games. Results will be reported next week.

The Lady Bulldogs open district play at 6:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, when they visit Cross Plains. The Moran boys are off until Friday, Jan. 13. They will travel to May for their district opener.

Girls Basketball

The Lady Bulldogs went 0-3 at Gordon, falling 50-16 to Poolville, 31-17 to Bryson, and 64-22 to Perrin-Whitt.

Against Poolville, Moran fell behind 12-3 in the first quarter and saw the deficit grow to 14 points at halftime. Emily Murk led the Lady Bulldogs with eight points, followed by Alli Scott with five, Alyssa Allred with two, and Kacenda Thompkins with one. Allred and Thompkins each had six rebounds.

Against Bryson, Moran was unable to climb out of a nine-point first-quarter hole. Scott had eight points, with Allred scoring five and Samantha Hinkle and Thompkins two apiece. Allred grabbed 10 rebounds, and Thompkins got seven.

In the finale against Perrin-Whitt, Moran trailed by six after the first quarter and 15 at halftime. Allred led the team with eight points, and Scott added six. Jordan Martin had four points with Murk and Thompkins scoring two each.

The Lady Bulldogs had their best rebounding game of the tournament, with Hinkle grabbing 11 boards, Murk and Thompkins eight each, and Allred seven.

Boys Basketball

Moran struggled for offensive production in dropping its two games in the boys division. The Bulldogs lost 63-18 to Bryson and 81-7 to Gordon.

Bryson jumped out to a 26-4 lead and continued to pull away. Ellis Hise led Moran with nine points, while Tyler Waddell added six. Cotten Campbell had two points and Caleb York one.

Against Gordon, the Bulldogs were held scoreless for two quarters as the Longhorns pushed their lead to 63 points. York scored all seven points for Moran.

Junior High

Moran’s junior high teams return to action Monday, Jan. 9, when they host Cross Plains. The sixth grade team will play at 6:00 p.m., followed by the combined seventh and eighth grade team at 7:00 p.m.

The teams last played Monday, Dec. 12, against Baird.
