Moran Bulldogs to face Rotan Friday

The Moran Bulldogs showed some improvement last Friday in their second outing of the football season, but not enough to avoid a 51-6 loss to Class 1A Division I opponent Evant in their home opener at Bulldog Field.

“There was a little progress,” Moran coach John Hughes said. “There are things to work on, but our biggest problem is still our numbers. We made it past halftime, and that was a big positive.”

The Bulldogs (0-2) finished with 25 total yards and three turnovers.

Arren Hawley rushed for 14 yards and scored Moran’s touchdown. Connor Hail added 12 yards rushing. Ellis Hise was 2 of 3 passing for 12 yards. Hawley had both receptions.

Defensively, Hise led Moran with eight tackles while Hawley was in on seven stops. Hail and Caleb York each recorded four tackles.

“There was some improvement in all areas,” Hughes said, “but our youth showed again, and that’s what most of our mistakes are about.”

Moran trailed 19-6 after one quarter, but Evant (2-0) pulled away with 26 points in the second. The Elks ended the game with a touchdown in the third quarter.

Preparing for Rotan

The Bulldogs face a Division I opponent for the second week in a row when they visit the Rotan Yellowhammers at 7:30 p.m. Friday at H. Govan Memorial Stadium.

“They’re going to be another tough test,” Hughes said. “They’ve rolled past both teams they’ve played so far this year.”

Rotan beat Woodson 64-16 last week.
