The Moran Lady Bulldogs opened their basketball season Saturday, Nov. 12 with a 65-8 loss at Alvord.

The Lady Bulldogs returned to action Tuesday, Nov. 15 at home against Blanket. Results will be reported next week.

On Friday, Nov. 18, the Lady Bulldogs host Mullin before the Moran boys team plays its first game against Mullin. The girls game will tip off at 6:00 p.m.

Moran is scheduled to host Bryson on Monday, Nov. 21 for a doubleheader in its outing during the school’s Thanksgiving break. Girls coach John Hughes said game times will be determined.

Just getting their first game played required some effort by the Lady Bulldogs. The scheduled game against Loraine was cancelled, and Hughes was left scrambling to find a replacement on short notice.

It turned out that was the easy part.

“We needed to play even though we got throttled pretty good,” Hughes said. “You could tell we’d only practiced for a week. In that entire week, I had the whole team there one time because I had people out sick and people going here and going there for other activities.”

Moran trailed 17-2 after one quarter and 33-3 at halftime. Alli Scott led the Lady Bulldogs with five points. Alyssa Allred scored two points, and Alayna Baker had one.

“I know my two returning starters (Scott and Emily Murk) are all right,” Hughes said. “It’s having to jell a couple of other ones together and I’ve got a new girl (Neveah Huskey) who just moved in, so she’s got to fit into the scheme.”

Junior High

The Moran Junior High boys basketball teams opened their seasons Monday, Nov. 14 with losses to Rising Star.

The A team, a combination of seventh and eighth graders, fell 29-14. The B team, composed of all sixth graders, lost 43-2.

In the A game, Landon Moreno scored 12 points while Jarrett Hamilton had two. In the B game, Aiden Otwell scored Moran’s lone basket.

The teams will be off next week for Thanksgiving break, returning to action Monday, Nov. 28 at May.
