Moran athletes place well at Bryson

The week before spring break was busy for tracksters at Moran, with varsity, junior high, and elementary students traveling to various meets.
The varsity boys team tied for fifth with 34 points and girls team placed sixth with 52 points at the Cowboy Relays in Bryson on Friday, March 6.
Medal winners included Alli Scott who won gold in the 100 meter hurdles, Dariann Hawley with two silver medals in the distance runs, and bronze medalists Arren Hawley, Johnnie Hise, and Reshaley Schafer.
“The kids made a great showing at Bryson and improved on some of their times,” said high school track coach John Hughes. “Now they are getting a much-needed break before we go to Gordon for a combined junior high and high school meet on March 19.”
The Bulldogs and Lady ’Dawgs will also compete at Blanket on Thursday, March 26 prior to the District 20-A meet in Gordon on Thursday, April 2.
Results from the middle school meet in May on March 2 and from the elementary track meet in Bryson on March 6 were not available at press time.
Hughes said that the seventh and eighth graders have room for improvement, but he was pleased with their performance last Monday.
“They did well, especially considering most of them had never competed in an actual meet before,” said the coach. “There is a lot of potential in these kids, and coaches Matthew Hise and Elizabeth Martin have done a great job with them.”
Hughes was also at a ribbon meet in Bryson last Thursday with the first through sixth graders.
“Our elementary kids had a blast,” said Hughes, “and (it looks like) we have some athletic kids coming up in the near future.”
