Moran athletes honored for fall sports

Three Moran High School seniors were honored by bigcountrypreps.com for their efforts in fall sports.

Arren Hawley was an honorable mention selection to the football team at receiver, linebacker, punter and kicker in addition to earning aspot on the website’s True Grit team.

Moran’s lone senior on the team, Hawley led the Bulldogs in rushing with 486 yards and eight touchdowns, as well as receiving with 20 catches for 316 yards and nine touchdowns. On defense, he recorded a team-high 54 tackles with 33 solo. He converted 10 PAT kicks and had five touchbacks on kickoffs in addition to averaging 27.2 yards per punt with five downed inside the 20.

Bulldogs coach John Hughes said Hawley’s importance to the team went beyond his production on the field.

“He’s been with me for three years now,” Hughes said. “He’s the one holdover from my first year.”

Volleyball players Hannah Rogers and Johnnie Hise were honorable mention pick as utility players. Hise was also picked for the website’s Maximum Effort team.

The duo helped keep the Lady Bulldogs in playoff contention until the final match of the season.

Hise, an outside hitter and setter, averaged 5.2 kills, 3.7 aces, 4.4 assists, and 4.2 digs per set. She was a first-team all-District 6-1A selection.

Rogers, a defensive specialist and setter, averaged 2.5 kills, 2.2 aces, 6.1 assists, and 5.3 digs per set in receiving second-team all-district recognition.

“Both of them have strong leadership skills,” Moran coach Jo Hise said of the pair. “They were very instrumental in leading the team and getting the other girls motivated and working toward a playoff spot.”
