Moran athletes compete today at district

The Moran track and field teams had their final competition before district on Thursday, April 6 at Hermleigh’s Wind Energy Relays.

Moran athletes are competing Thursday, April 13 (today) at the District 13-1A meet at May. Running prelims are scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. with field events getting underway at 1:00 p.m. Running finals will start at 4:00 p.m.

At Hermleigh, the Lady Bulldogs finished ninth in the team standings with 40 points, while the Moran boys tied for 13th with half a point.

“The kids competed well,” coach John Hughes said.

In the girls division, Alli Scott set a meet record in running 47.84 to win the 300 hurdles. She also won the 100 hurdles (16.18), high jump (5-4), and long jump (16-0).

Jordan Martin competed in the 100 (15.87), 200 (32.50), and the long jump (13-2½). Jayla Bussell competed in the 400 (1:17.68), and the 800 (3:19.54). Samantha Hinkle, Kacenda Thompkins, and LeAnna Sikes all competed in the shot put and discus, but all had marks that got pulled. Terra Thompson competed in the 1600 (10:57).

For the varsity boys, Connor Hail tied for sixth in the 100 (12.15). He also competed in the 400 (1:03.10), 200 (27.68), shot put, and discus ( no marks).

Chase Murk competed in the 100 (15.88), 400 (1:18.28), 200 (33.66), and the long jump (13-8¾).

The JV boys finished seventh with four points. Max Oliver was fourth in the shot put (32-5) and also competed in the discus but didn’t get a mark.

Elementary

After taking last week off for Easter, Moran’s elementary teams return to action on Saturday, April 15 at Blanket.
