Moran’s Alli Scott will make her second appearance at the Class 1A state track meet and is hopeful the experience gained last year will pay off.

A send-off for Scott, a junior, is scheduled for Friday afternoon at Moran High School.

Scott, who qualified for state in the 100 hurdles as a sophomore, will compete in three events Saturday, May 14 at Myers Stadium in Austin. Based on her regional finals results, Scott is seeded first in the 300 hurdles (47.52), fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.63), and sixth in the high jump (5-0).

“Last year going in, I was really, really nervous,” Scott said. “I learned that it’s just another race at the end of the day. Yes, it would have been good to win, but now I have the experience to use to my advantage to go back this year and not be freaking out. I have more experience now, and I’ll be more ready.”

Moran coach John Hughes said the whole approach this spring was intended to prepare Scott for state.

“This year, we went to the bigger meets and she knows how to prep for what we’re doing,”
he said. “She’s approached every meet like it’s just a meet, nothing else. But she’s pretty excited about it, and I am, too.”

Hughes said keeping Scott rested in the Austin heat will be a key. The high jump is scheduled for late morning, the 100 hurdles for late afternoon, and the 300 hurdles for the evening.

“We’ll high jump, then probably go back to the hotel,” Hughes said. “We’ll get in where it’s nice and cool and relax, then go back up there about 3:00 p.m.”
