MISD students place at UIL meet

Moran placed fifth overall last week at the elementary and junior high district UIL academic meet held at Cross Plains.

Contests for writing and chess were conducted Wednesday, Nov. 9 on campus. Speaking events were contested Wednesday, Nov. 30, with other events held Thursday, Dec. 1.

Moran principal Jo Hise said Moran students competed well.

“We had a lot of individuals and several teams do well,” she said. “I’m really pleased with the results.”

Moran claimed two individual and one team first place, all in spelling. Naomi Garza winning in fifth grade. Also on the winning team were Emmie Hise and Gentry Medina, and Rob Williams was the sixth grade individual winner.

Chess: 6. Aiden Otwell.

Listening Skills: 2. Briley Chadwick; 3. (team of Chadwick, Hise, and Williams finished second).

Social Studies: 6. James Hise.

Spelling: 1 Rob Williams (team of Williams, Hise and Chadwick finished third).

Fifth
Grade

Dictionary Skills: 5. Neveah Alexander.

Listening Skills: 2. Emmie Hise (team of Hise, Seraiah Henson and Naomi Garza finished third)

Music Memory:  2. Naomi Garza (team of Garza, Tim Hinkle, Bentley McCullough, Alexander, and Henson finished second).

Number Sense: 3. Team of Hise, Hinkle and Alexander.

Spelling: 1. Naomi Garza; 2. Emmie Hise (team of Garza, Hise and Gentry Medina finished first).

Fourth
Grade

Music Memory: 4. Romie Hinshaw.

Ready Writing: 2. Alexis Whitehill.

Spelling: 4. Lily Shires (team of Shires, Hinshaw, and Mackenzie Marquez finished third).
