$ 700,000 to be used for safety

Moran ISD will receive nearly $700,000 in state grants to help upgrade security on campus.

Superintendent Dr. John Denson said the district has been awarded a $200,000 grant.

“We had a safety meeting Tuesday with the Sheriff ’s Office and discussed the safety of the school and did some planning,” Denson said. “We received a$200,00safetygrantfrom the state and were told we’re getting $490,000 on topofthatbecauseofallthe stuffweturnedinthatwe’d like to upgrade for safety.”

Denson said the upgrades will cover the entire security system.

“We’re going to upgrade our cameras, alarms, and communication systems,” he said. “We’re still working on our fence.”

Tractor Tech

Moran FFA’s Tractor Tech Team of Caleb York, Cotten Campbell, and Ellis Hise competed in a contest Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Stanton. Complete results were not available at press time, but Denson said the team got off to a good start.

“They were the only ones in their heat to solve all four bugs on the tractor, crank it, and drive it,” he said.

Earning Degrees

Moran FFA recognized 40 members Tuesday, Dec. 19 who completed word toward FFA degrees.

DiscoveryDegreeswere awarded to Andy Barron, Caliann Carroll, Briley Chadwick, Landon Herrell, Hayle Hettinger, James Hise, Ricky Lee, Aiden Otwell, Christian Rodriguez, Kaylee Sanchez, Juillin Whitehill, and Robert Williams.

Greenhand Degrees were awarded to Jason Burge, Hunter Clark, Lizabeth Creek, Ezekiel Henson, Dylan Herod, Dylan Kinman, Tyler Lee, Caleb Longstreet, Audriana Ortega, Bailey Prater, Miguel Rodriguez, Makayla Sanchez, Haryli Thompson, Conner Carey, MichaelLewis,EmmaMc-Cullough, Kielar Carr, and Robert McCullough.

Chapter Degrees were awarded to Cutter Campbell, Garret Hamilton, MaeKayla Kersey, Landon Moreno, Trey Otwell, Ethan Moddox, Max Oliver, ChelseaThurman,and Rayni Vinson.

Holiday Break

Moran concluded the fall semester Thursday, Sept. 21 (today) before releasing students for two weeks.

Classes will resume Tuesday, Jan. 9 after a teacher development day on Monday, Jan. 8.

Among the activities this week was a Christmas program on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at the Moran Events Center. Today, students celebratedBreakfast With Santa at 7:30 a.m. before a semester awards assembly this afternoon.

“We recognized A honor roll, B honor roll and perfect attendance,” Moran principal Jo Hise said.
