The Moran Bulldogs will start district play in Baird this Friday, Jan. 17, following a long Christmas break after a Dec. 20 loss to Throckmorton.

The varsity girls started their district games last Friday, Jan. 10, falling to Gordon 28-35, and taking on Ranger Tuesday, Jan. 14.

The Lady Bulldogs will join the boys for games in Baird on Jan. 17 starting at 6:00 p.m. Moran will host Eula starting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Throckmorton Game

According to boys basketball coach Robert Londerholm, the Bulldogs started out slow after the half.

“We did not score well in the third quarter and fell behind,” Londerholm said. “Our shot selection needs to improve. We needed to score (in order) to set up a full court press to create easier scoring opportunities by forcing turnovers.”

The coach said that a couple of the Throckmorton players were very physical inside, coming up with a lot of rebounds.

“That was the difference in the outcome,” said Londerholm. “It was a game we could have won if we had hit our lay-ups and made our free throws.”

Throckmorton won the close match 46-42.

Lady Bulldogs

The varsity girls lost both games last week, falling 29-44 to Perrin-Whitt on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and losing to Gordon 28-35 on Friday, Jan. 10.

Results from the Lady Bulldogs’ game with Ran-ger on Tuesday, Jan. 14 were not available at press time, and will be reported next week.

Perrin-Whitt

Moran traveled to Perrin for their last non-district game of the year.

“It was a case of one good half and one bad half of basketball,” said Hughes. “We couldn’t get much going in the first half and trailed by 20 at halftime. We came out better in the second half and played extremely well.”

Although the Lady Bulldogs outscored their opponent 21-16 in the second half, it wasn’t enough to pull out a win.

Perrin-Whitt won the game 44-29.

Scoring for Moran were Johnnie Hise 10, November Meredith 8, Dariann Hawley 6, and Reshaley Schafer 5.

Gordon

Friday, Jan. 10 was the first district game for the girls, with the Lady Bulldogs facing Gordon.

“It was a really good game by both teams; we just came out on the short end of it,” said Hughes.

Moran lost 28-35.

“I was extremely proud of the determination that the girls showed throughout the game,” he said. “We tied it up with about three minutes left, but we just couldn’t get shots to fall in the end.”

Hughes said that even though the girls lost, he was pleased with the effort they showed.

“They left everything on the floor and gave me great effort,” he said. “That’s what makes me happy.”

Scoring for the Lady ’Dawgs were Schafer 11, Hawley 8, Meredith 4, Hise 3, and Hannah Rogers 2.

The Moran junior high teams played in Strawn on Thursday, Jan. 9, and in Gordon on Monday, Jan. 13.

Results of those games were not available at press time.
