MHS boys to compete at regionals

The Moran boys doubles tam of CalebYork and Ellis Hise will compete in the Region II-1A tennis tournament Thursday-Friday, May 9-10 at San Angelo.

A top-two finish at the regional tournament will earn the duo a berth in the Class 1A state tournament, scheduled for Thursday-Friday, May 16-17 at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio. In cases where the thirdplace winner and championship loser have not met, a playback will determine the second qualifier.

York and Hise won a playback Monday, April 22 at the District 13-1A tournament in Brownwood to become Moran’s first regional qualifiers since Hannah Rogers and Corey Miller advanced in mixed doubles in 2021.

Junior High Tennis Moran had two entries finish fourth May 1 at the junior high district tournament at Eula.

In girls doubles, Jaelynn Courtney andAmelia York won their first-round match 6-4 against Coulter-Goins of Rising Star, then lost 1-6 to Allgood-Keeling of Rising Star in the semifinals. In the third place match, the Moran pair lost 0-3 to Nations-Dahlberg of Eula.

In boys doubles, Ricky Lee and Rob Williams lost 0-6 in the first round to Gerngross-Wilson of Eula, then lost 0-3 to Po’okela-Prickett of Eula for third place.

In boys singles, James Hise lost 1-6 in the first round to Barr of Eula.

“This was a good exposure for the students to see how the game of tennis is played,” coach Jo Hise said. “I’m very proud of this group. I look forward to the next years of their tennis careers.”
