MHS athletes advance

Several Moran tracksters, including members of three relay teams, and triple jump gold medalist Kobee Lapp qualified for the 1-A area track meet at the District 20-A meet in Dublin last Wednesday in spite of the blustery weather.

Lapp advanced in the triple jump, high jump, long jump, 4x200 relay, and 4x400 relay.

Also advancing on the boys 4x200 relay team are Jonas Cadena, Harley Schafer, and Braden Crow.

Team members on the 4x400 relay at area will be Harley Schafer, Crow, Arren Hawley, and Lapp.

Qualifying for area for the Lady Bulldogs are Rashaley Schafer in the 200 meter dash, Jaylynn Roberts in the 3200 meter run, Johnnie Hise in the triple jump and the 800 meter run, and Dariann Hawley in the 800 and in the 1600 meter runs.

The girls 4x200 relay team of Roberts, Hawley, Hise, and Rashaley Schafer also advanced.

“It was the coldest and windiest track meet so far this year for us,” said head coach Harley Ethridge. “The elements of rain, cold and 30-mile an hour wind forced competitors to hunker down for protection, making it very tough to warm up and stretch before events. But the kids prevailed, and some are moving on to the area meet.”

The top four places at district qualified for the 1-A area track meet to be held in Dublin on April 15. Winners at the area level move on to the Region 3 meet at Whitney on April 26-27.

The state meet will be in Austin on May 10-11.

Competing in district with Moran are Baird, Eula, Gordon, Ranger, and Strawn.
