Local tennis teams to host AHS matches

After taking a week off for spring break, members of the Albany High School tennis team will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20, hosting a couple of other schools at the local courts starting at 2:00 p.m.

AHS athletes will then participate in the Abilene High School Invitational March 29-30.

The district meet is set for the following week on April 2-3 at Abilene’s Rose Park Tennis Center.

“Due to the weather, we haven’t gotten much court time, but hopefully that will change,” said tennis coach Sara Wilson.

Several players were at Rose Park on March 6 for practice matches against teams from Miles, Stamford, and Rotan.

Results are as follows:

Girls Singles

Sarah Beth Cotter defeated Brooks of Miles 6-0, then won against another Miles player 6-0.

Sidney Bartee lost to Miles #1 6-0.

Boys Singles

Cooper Fairchild defeated Miles #2 6-0, lost to Miles #1 0-6.

Girls Doubles

Mady Connally and Landree Connally lost to Stamford #1 6-0, lost to Miles #1 6-4, defeated Miles #2 6-3.

Sarah Beth Cotter and Sidney Bartee lost to Miles #2 3-6.

Boys Doubles

Brodey Jones and Michael Hernandez lost to Stamford #1 6-0, lost to Miles #1 6-3.

Mixed Doubles

Luke Ivy and Traci Isbell lost to Rotan #1 6-5, lost to Stamford #1 6-2.
