Local sports camps to start next Tuesday

With the end of the school year, students might be looking for something to keep them busy this summer.

There are several options including a host of sports camps during the summer break, including one that starts next week.

The first is the All-Sports camp which is set for June 1-3. The camp combines three sports - football, baseball and basketball - with one day of instruction dedicated to each.

The multiple sport camp is open to both boys and girls.

“Each day we will go through drills that will help the improve their agility, speed, hand-eye coordination, along with focusing on running, throwing and catching techniques,” Ryder Peacock said. “This camp is open to both boys and girls.”

Cost of the camp is $35 for all three sessions or $15 per day if choosing only one of two of the sessions.

Tuesday, June 1 will concentrate on football, followed by baseball on Wednesday, June 2. Basketball will be taught on Thursday, June 3.

Sessions will be divided into two age groups, with students entering grades K-3 next year meeting from 9:00 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. each day

For students entering grades 4-9, the session will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

All students will meet at the Green Room at the field house on the secondary campus.

Family rates are available, including $60 for two siblings and $85 for three.

The camp is sponsored by the First National Bank of Albany.

Basketball Camp

A two-day basketball camp is set for June 7-8 at the high school.

The camp is open to both boys and girls and will be divided into two age groups. Students entering grade K-3 will meet from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on both days. Students entering grades 4-9 in the fall will meet at 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. both days.

The camp will be instructed by Ryder Peacock and Tate Thompson.

The cost for the two-day event is $25.

Forms are being sent home with students, and will also be available from either coach.

Volleyball Camp

Coach M.J. Reneau is hosting a three-day volleyball camp on July 19-21 at the high school.

The cost is $25 and includes a camp T-shirt.

Campers will be divided into three groups, including students entering grade 1-3, who will meet at 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

Students entering grades 4-6 will meet from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon each day, while grades 7-9 campers will meet from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Volleyball Team Camp

All students planning to participate in Lady Lion volleyball in the fall will have a team camp set for July 26-29.

Coach M.J. Reneau said that the camp is for students entering grades 9-12 in the fall and is open just to Albany students.

Due to a cancellation by the instructor this week, Reneau is in the process of finding a new director for the camp.

“I’ll send out a letter as soon as it is all finalized,” she said. “It will include the cost of the camp and the exact times.”

Cheerleading Camp

A cheerleading camp for students age 3 through sixth grade is set for July 26-28.

Sessions will be held at the high school gym from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day.

Participants will be divided into group by age, with members of the junior high and high school cheer teams providing the instruction.

The cost of the camp is $35, with each additional sibling registration set at $20.

Students will be taught cheers and chants, along with a dance routine to be showcased at the annual Ice Cream Supper in august.

Forms are available at the grade school and mailed along with payment to Nickie Leveridge, P.O. Box 2050, Albany, Tx.

The cost of the camp includes a T-shirt if forms and payment are received by July 12.
