The 2019 Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star games were held last weekend, and four Albany senior athletes took part in the festivities.

Joshua Dyer played on the North baseball team, Ryan Hill was a member of the North men’s basketball team, Cameron Dacus was selected to the Red football team, and Cutter Edgar played for the Blue football team.

Dyer and the North baseball team won the FCA All-Star baseball game with a narrow 6-5 victory over the South team on June 7 at First Community Field at Angelo State University in San Angelo.

Dyer was not able to attend all of the FCA festivities because of the state baseball tournament, but was still able to participate in the game.

“I wasn’t able to be there for the entire weekend because of the state tournament, but the time I got to spend at the event was unforgettable,” said Dyer. “It was definitely different than any other game I’ve ever played in.”

Dyer was honored to be selected for the game.

“Not everyone gets selected so knowing that the coaches and community picked me is a huge honor,” said Dyer. “The coaches and players involved in the whole FCA weekend were amazing.”

Cameron Dacus and Cutter Edgar squared off against each other in the FCA All-Star football game, held at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene on June 8.

Edgar’s Blue team triumphed against Dacus and the Red team 60-13.

Edgar enjoyed all aspects of the event.

“The whole weekend was very spiritual,” said Edgar. “It was exciting getting to see all the talent from around the Big Country come together.”

Dacus enjoyed getting to compete with and against the best the Big Country had to offer.

“It was a great experience getting to play with all of the athletes at the event and to be able to be coached by some of the best coaches in the area,” Dacus said.

Edgar was happy to be one of the few chosen for the event.

“Only a handful of senior athletes get chosen to compete in these events,” said Edgar. “It’s an honor to know that I was chosen.”

Dacus was glad to be able to represent his town and school.

“Knowing that the coaches wanted me to play on their team gave me a good feeling,” said Dacus. “I was happy to get to represent Albany High one last time.”

Ryan Hill won his game with the North men’s basketball team, beating the South team 90-84.

Because of his still-healing injury, Hill wasn’t released to play much, but did get on the court for the last few seconds of the game.

Members of the FCA All-Star teams participate in camps during the days leading up to the games, where players take part in sports training camps, Bible studies, listening to inspirational speakers, and engaging in fun activities.

Team members are also housed with families in the area, where they are fed and transported to locations as needed.
