Little League, softball underway

Albany Little League held its opening day Monday, March 28, with a pair of games at the local complex.

In the Majors age group, the Oilers defeated the Reds 13-6 behind a two-run homer by Slayton Parsons.

In the Minors age group, the Oilers edged the Reds 18-16.

League organizer Paul Hamilton said more than 160 players are participating in the various age groups this season.

“We’re having a great time,” Hamilton said. “We want to encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the games.”

Hamilton said the concession stand provides full meals in addition to a variety of snacks. Proceeds from the concession stand are used to pay umpires for all divisions.

On Thursday, March 24, Albany’s Intermediate and Junior teams won their openers. Details of the games were not available.

On Thursday, March 31 (tonight), the Indians play the Reds. The Minors game starts at 5:30 p.m. with the Majors game starting at 7:15 p.m.

On Friday, April 1, the Oilers will host Haskell with the Minors starting at 6:00 p.m, and the Majors at 7:45 p.m. Albany will play teams from Haskell, Cisco, and Hawley in addition to local competition.

On Monday, April 4,the Indians will visit Cisco while the Oilers host a Cisco team. On Thursday, April 7, the roles will be reversed with the Oilers on the road and Indians at home. Game times for both dates are 6:00 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

Softball Association

The Albany Softball Association’s season continues with 16 games for four teams in three age groups over the next week.

On Thursday, March 31 (tonight), the 8U teams host Breckenridge with Heat playing at 6:00 p.m. and Fire at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, April 1, the 10U team hosts Cisco for a doubleheader at 6:00 p.m., while the 12U team visits Breckenridge for a doubleheader at 6:00 p.m.

On Monday, April 4, the 12Us host the Breckenridge Tornados for a doubleheader at 6:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 5, the 8U teams play at Cisco with Heat starting at 6:00 p.m. and Fire at 7:00 p.m., while the 10Us host Ranger for a doubleheader at 6:00 p.m.

All four teams will be in action on Thursday, April 7. The 8Us host Cisco with Heat starting at 6:00 p.m. and Fire at 7:00 p.m. The 10Us visit Breckenridge at 6:00 p.m. for a single game, and the 12Us visit Cisco at 6:00 p.m. for a single game.
