Little League field gets 2024 facelift

Albany Little League will be playingonanewsurfaceduring its 2024 season.

Work began this week on installing new sod and infield dirt at the Little League complex.

The season opens Monday, March 18 with three games scheduled for the week.

Albany Little League president Paul Hamilton said work includes grading the field to improve drainage.

“Every time it rains, the firstbase side is a swamp,” he said. “This will take care of that.”

The new grass will be Tifway 419 Bermuda, a hybrid that is popular as a surface for golf courses and sports fields.

The project is the latest in a series of upgrades to the facility. Recent years have seen the installation of new batting cages and the construction of new restrooms.

“The restrooms were the biggest project up until this,” Hamilton said. “This will be a really nice improvement.”

College Trip Planned

Hamilton announced that Albany Little League players will once again have the opportunity to attend the Texas Tech-Abilene Christian baseball game scheduled for Tuesday, April 9 at ACU’s Crutcher Scott Field.

The trip is open to players in the Minors, Majors, Intermediate, and Junior age groups.

“We’ve had over 100 attend the last couple of years,” Hamilton said. “We hope to do that again.”

Further details will be announced as the date draws closer.
