The Lion basketball team’s season came to an end last Tuesday with area-round playoff loss to the Lipan Indians, 75-46.

Albany finished the season in second place in District 10-2A and defeated Petrolia in the bi-district game, 57-55. The Lions were 11-7 for the season and 9-3 in district action.

Lipan advanced to the regional semifinal this week, beating Wolfe City, 49-39, to set up a regional final bout versus  Cisco set for today.

Albany head basketball coach Ryder Peacock was pleased with the way the Lions’ playoff run went.

“I was very proud of our effort throughout the Lipan game,” Peacock said. “Even when the game was getting away from us, our guys never slowed down.”

The coach was also pleased with the second place finish in district this season.

“We came a long ways from where we started this season,” he said. “I think we surprised a lot of people. I am very proud of the way our seniors led us down the stretch.”

The coach added that he couldn’t have asked for more than the team gave, especially from the seniors.

“I’m going to miss those guys next season,” Peacock said.

The coach named Barrett Beal and Adam Hill as offensive standouts in the Lipan game.

Scoring for the Lions against the Indians were Barrett Beal 9, London Fuentes 5, Coy Lefevre 6, Cole Chapman 4, Everett McWhorter 6, Adam Hill 10, and Luke Ivy 6.
