Sitting atop the District 8-2A standing, the Lion baseball team picked up another win on Monday against the Cisco Loboes, 13-1.

Albany was also set to play a make-up game on Wednesday (yesterday) in Anson after last week’s showdown between the two state-ranked teams was postponed due to rain. Results of the bout were not available at press time but will be reported next week.

The Lions have one regular season game remaining, which is scheduled for Tuesday, April 27 in Hawley at 7:00 p.m.

The win over Cisco this week gave the Lions a 14-3-1 season mark, including 8-0 in district.

Even with the outcome of the last two games of the season, Albany will at least share in the district title, if not win it outright.

Coach David Fairchild said he is hoping to find a practice game in the next week for his team prior to the first round of the playoffs which will be held in the May 6-8 window.

Caden Price led the Lions at the plate against Cisco, going two for three with five RBIs.

“Caden had a good night at the plate with five RBIs, along with Coy Lefevre who was two for three with an RBI,” Fairchild said.

Cade Neve hit a double to drive in two runs as well.

Neve pitched the opening two innings for the Lions, allowing one run on two hits and no walks. He struck out four at the plate.

Jackson Chapman came in as relief for the final three innings, giving up one hit with no runs or walks. He had two strikeouts.

“I thought Cade and Jackson threw well, and Cade had several nice plays on defense at short stop after Chapman came in,” he said. “Parker Henry also had a nice defensive play behind the plate on a put out. I am really proud of the team for this win, which puts us in great shape in district.”

JV Loses to Loboes

The JV Lions lost to Cisco on Monday, 5-2.

Fairchild commended both Lute Wheeler and Bryson Herring at the plate, along with a “good” hit by Tyler Chapman.

“I thought Zane Waggoner threw well coming in as relief for Cole Read,” the coach said. “Lanxton Viertel also threw the ball well.”
