The Lion basketball season finally got underway on Tuesday, after being on hold for several weeks while many of the players were involved in the football playoffs.

The varsity took the court against the Abilene Hawks, posting a 67-52 win in their first outing. Details of the game will be printed next week.

The varsity will be off for a week for the Christmas holidays, returning to the court at the Windthorst Tournament on Dec. 28 and 29.

The JV boys played in the Jacksboro tournament last Saturday, splitting games.

The JV lost to Holliday in the first round, 45-15.

Scoring were Jackson Chapman 2, Luke Ivy 4, Ryder Wilkins 6, and Rylan Roberson 3.

Everett McWhorter and Wilkins were named as defensive standouts.

The JV Lions defeated Archer City’s JV 45-28 in the second game on Saturday.

“We started out a little sluggish but got rolling in the second quarter and never looked back,” coach Rod Britting said. “This was a pretty solid game considering we didn’t even have a workout together.”

Cooper Fairchild and Wilkins were named offensive standouts, while Chapman and McWhorter were picked for defense.

Scoring for the JV were Chapman 2, McWhorter 6, Fairchild 12, Brodey Jones 6; Ivy 7, Wilkins 8, Brayden Sullivan 3, and Roberson 1.
