Registration is ongoing for the upcoming youth baseball and softball seasons season with information available at Nancy Smith Elementary School.

Albany Little League

Albany Little League organizer Paul Hamilton said the baseball program is shifting to online registration this year, but information on how to register will be available through the school.

The registration deadline for T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Little League Majors and Minors, Intermediate, and Junior leagues will be in mid-February, Hamilton said.

“I don’t want to close it too early and have kids think they’ve been left out,” Hamilton said.

The season will start following Albany’s spring break, which is March 14-18. Hamilton said an exact start date will be determined after registration is finished.

The season will last into May with all-star competition beginning in June.

“We’re hoping to have four teams each in T-ball, Coach Pitch, Majors, and Minors,” Hamilton said. “Last year, we had three in Majors and Minors, which was tough to schedule. Then we’ll probably have one Intermediate and one Junior League team.”

Hamilton said the Intermediate and Junior teams will travel to neighboring towns for games, while Majors and Minors will likely travel as well.

“We’ll definitely travel if we only have three teams in those groups again,” he said.

Registration fees are $50 for T-Ball and Coach Pitch, $75 for Majors and Minors, and $85 for Intermediate and Juniors. Scholarships are available.

Families having three or more children participating will receive a discount starting with the third child.

All age groups are co-ed.

Association

The Albany Softball Association registration forms were distributed this week, league organizer Jacey Shack said.

Registration fee is $50. Families with more than one child participating will pay $25 for each additional child.

Registration deadline is Feb. 2.

The ASA offers competition from six and under through 14 years of age.

“Typically, five and  six year olds will be in 6U,” Shack said.

Shack said the season will start in March similar to Little League.

“We may end up getting into a tournament or two before spring break,” he said, “but typically everything happens after spring break.”

Teams may compete in district and state tournaments after the season.
