Last-minute shot gets win for Moran 8th graders

A last minute three-point shot secured the lone victory reported for Moran basketball teams this week.

Bulldogs

The varsity boys lost a road game 25-64 in Eula on Tuesday, Jan. 15. 

The Bulldogs hosted Strawn Friday, Jan. 18. The visitors claimed a 82-31 victory.

Results were not available at press time from the Gordon game on Tuesday.

Moran will finish out the first half of district play when they welcome Ranger to Bulldog Gym on Friday, Jan. 26, for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.

Lady Bulldogs

The girls varsity team also lost to both Eula and Strawn.

Eula claimed a 59-5 win  in their home gym on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Strawn defeated the Lady Bulldogs 64-36.

According to coach Dakota Fowler, high scorers were Johnnie Hise 13, and Summer Pederson 12.

The Lady Bulldogs started the second half of district play on Tuesday, Jan. 22 when they had a 6:00 p.m. bout with Gordon in Moran. Results were not available at press time.

The girls varsity team will host Ranger at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 25.

Junior High Girls

The junior high Lady Bulldogs lost to Baird on Monday, Jan. 21, in a close 18-13 game.

“I am very proud of my girls!” Fowler said. “They did amazing job. They worked very hard and I couldn’t have been any happier with them!”

The middle school girls are scheduled to play in the Rising Star Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 26, before finishing the season with two home games on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4.

Junior High Boys

“The Moran junior high boys went to Baird and won 16-13 on a last minute three-pointer by Toby Eason,” said coach Matthew Hise. “I am very proud of them. More of our players scored in this game than in any other game we have played.”

Scoring for Moran were Braxton Ethridge 6, Eason 3, Danny O’Keefe 2, Memphis McGough 2, Joshua Lorezana 2, and Cotten Campbell 1.

The junior high Bulldogs will play Eula in Moran on Monday, Jan 28, at 7:00 p.m.

The final game of the season will be against Strawn on Monday, Feb. 4, at 7:00 p.m. in Bulldog Gym.
