Lapp finishes 4th in state triple jump

Moran senior Kobee Lapp placed fourth in the triple jump at the University Interscholastic League 1-A Track and Field State Championships in Austin last Friday, May 10.

Many would be satisfied by qualifying for state, but according to coach Dakota Fowler, Lapp was disappointed with his fourth place finish.

The 42-08.5 Lapp cleared at the state meet is five and a half inches less than his personal record of 43-02 recorded at the Albany Invitational meet at the end of March. Those extra inches would have earned him a bronze medal.

“But I was very proud of him,” said Fowler. “He just started track last year!”

Although he is a senior and is set to graduate in May, the state match was not Lapp’s track finale. The varsity Bulldog plans to compete in triple jump on the Oklahoma Baptist University track team.

“As a first year coach, I couldn’t be any more proud of him!” Fowler said.

Key’Undre Davis won the triple jump with a distance of 44-06.25. Carter Abney took second with 44-02.25 and Isaac Jackson was third with 42-11.75.

Lapp scored 42-08.5 on his fourth jump, moving him into second. He remained in contention for the silver through the fifth set of jumps. However, on their sixth and final attempts both Abney and Jackson were able to find a little more distance and move Lapp down in the placings.
