Lady Lions’ season ends at area round

The Lady Lion volleyball season came to close Saturday with Albany falling to the Miles Lady Bulldogs in three sets at the area playoff.

Playing in Brownwood, Albany lost 9-25, 15-25, 12-25 to end the season with a 12-16 overall record. Albany tied for third place in District 6-2A with a 7-5 mark.

“We had some bright spots and great moments against a good Miles team,” coach Kimberly Hill said. “We just weren’t consistent.”

The coach said she knew Miles could prove to be a challenging opponent.

“We knew if a couple of their better hitters were on, then they would be tough to defend,” she said. “We found ourselves scrambling quite a bit.”

Hill said that she is proud of how far the Lady Lions have come this season.

“The girls have worked hard,” said Hill. “And while it is always disappointing to lose, they have come so far since the season started on Aug. 1.”

The coach says she is encouraged for the future of the team.

“I expect nothing but good things for this group in the future,” she said. “They are a young bunch with a lot of raw ability and heart. I know they will continue to work and get better.”

The Lady Lions had no seniors and only two juniors on the court this season. The rest of the group included six sophomores and a large group of freshmen.
