Despite jumping out with a win in the first game, the Lady Lion volleyball team came up short in the area playoff against Miles on Saturday in Eastland.

Albany won the first game 25-14, but then dropped the next three 25-21, 25-16, 25-13, to end the season with an overall record of 21-13.

“The girls showed up ready for Miles,” head volleyball coach M.J. Reneau said. “We started out strong, attacking from every position.”

The Lady Bulldogs moved on to the regional quarterfinal on Tuesday against DeLeon, defeating them in three sets and earning a seat in the regional tournament this weekend.

“This season was so much fun, and I saw a lot of growth in each player,” the coach said. “The chemistry they had as a team also grew with every match.”

The Lady Lions posted a district record of 10-2, with losses only to Hawley.

“The girls never stopped working hard and wanting to get better,” Reneau said. “I am so proud that they finished with a winning record.”

The Lady Lions will be losing only two seniors off of the team, Mady Connally and Taylor Scott.

“We are a very young team, so the future of Lady Lion volleyball is very bright,” the coach said. “The girls are already talking about goals for next year.”
