The Lady Lions varsity basketball team opened the season at home last Saturday, beating Woodson 64-7.

The varsity girls team also traveled to Guthrie on Monday, picking up a 40-37 win. Details of that game were not available due to an early deadline.

Both the JV and varsity girls were also scheduled to host Comanche on Tuesday. Results will be reported next week.

Both girls teams will be on the road Tuesday, Dec. 1 for games starting at 5:15 p.m. in Ballinger.

“This was the first time that we had all of the girls on the floor,” said coach Tate Thompson. “I loved how the girls came out playing hard just like they’ve been playing together all along.”

Several members of the varsity team were still involved in the volleyball playoffs and were not able to practice with the rest of the team until the end of last week.

“The girls were hustling after loose balls and playing well together,” the coach said. “I was glad we were able to get a couple of games in before the Thanksgiving break to help us prepare for the season.”

Scoring for Albany in the Woodson game were Torie Fuentes 9, Brylee Moore 11, Cydney Nelson 6, Alli Hill 11, Briley Tabor 9, Tana Thompson 4, Traci Isbell 8, Lizzie Chavez 4, and Elia Hebel 2.
