Lady Lions pick up 3 wins in tourney

The Lady Lions were busy last week at the Winters Tournament, winning three games out of five and improving to 8-3 for the season.

The team was open this week as they prepare for tournament action in Breckenridge on Friday and Saturday. The varsity will play Dublin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, then will start bracket play that afternoon at 4:00 p.m.. Bracket games will continue on Saturday.

Albany will host ACHS on Monday, Dec. 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. The JV game on the schedule has been cancelled due to injuries. The JV girls are not expected to play until after the Christmas break.

Winters Tournament

The varsity traveled to Winters last Thursday through Saturday for a total of five games.

After losing the first two games on Thursday, Albany rallied to win the next three.

“This was a great tournament for us,” coach Tate Thompson said. “We got to see some great competition with several styles of basketball. We came out a little tired and banged up, but it was a very good series for us.”

Albany fell to Colorado City in the first game, 48-39. Sarah Cotter was the offensive standout, along with Jaleigh Morales on defense.

Scoring for Albany were Torie Fuentes 10, Alli Hill 2, Traci Isbell 2, Carley Green 3, Morales 11, and Cotter 11.

The Lady Lions also lost to Eula, 45-25, on the first day. Hill was the standout on offense, and Morales got the nod for defense.

Scoring in the game for Albany were Fuentes 4, Brylee Moore 2, Cydney Nelson 2, Hill 6, Green 2, Morales 5, and Cotter 4.

The Lady Lions defeated Sonora in the third game, 37-26. Hill was again the offensive standout, while Fuentes was named for defense.

Scoring were Fuentes 5, Nelson 2, Hill 11, Green 3, Morales 8, and Cotter 6.

On Saturday, Albany picked up a 48-10 victory over ACHS. Fuentes was the standout for offense and Cotter was named for defense.

Scoring were Fuentes 10, Moore 7, Nelson 8, Hill 8, Tana Thompson 2, Green 3, and Morales 10.

The Lady Lions ended the tournament edging out Winters 42-40. Morales was picked as the offensive standout, along with Hill on defense.

Scoring were Fuentes 3, Moore 2, Nelson 2, Hill 9, Green 2, Morales 17, and Cotter 7.
