Albany girls basketball players picked up several All-District selections for District 8-2A, including one superlative.

Senior Jaleigh Morales was named the  Offensive MVP by the district’s coaches. The standout racked up well over 1,000 points during her three years in Albany, receiving special recognition at the Lady Lions’ final home game.

The Lady Lions finished third in the district race with a 6-4 record, while Haskell (10-0) and Stamford (8-2) took first and second.

Albany advanced to the third round of the playoffs, losing in the regional quarterfinal to Stamford. Both Stamford and Haskell lost at the regional tournament.

“We were in a very tough district, which I think is proven by how far three of the four playoff teams advanced this season,” coach Tate Thompson said. “There is a lot of talent in the district, so I feel that our girls were represented well in the selections they received.”

Junior Alli Hill was named to the first team, while Sarah Cotter, a sophomore, and junior Torie Fuentes both received second team positions.

Albany also had two honorable mentions, including senior Carley Green and freshman Brylee Moore.

A number of the Lady Lions were also named to the Academic All-District team, including Jaleigh Morales, Carley Green, Torie Fuentes, Sarah Cotter, Alli Hill, Brylee Moore, Tana Thompson, and Cydney Nelson.
