Lady Lions to host holiday tourney

The varsity Lady Lions won two out of three games at the Breckenridge Tournament last weekend, beating both Dublin and TLCA before falling to the hosting Lady Bucs in the third round.

Albany hosted Guthie on Tuesday, picking up a 43-37 win to improve to 11-4 for the season. Details of the game will be reported in the next issue of the News.

The Lady Lions will travel to Throckmorton on Friday for a 2:00 p.m. game before starting the Christmas holiday.

The Lady Lions will host a varsity girls tournament on Dec. 27-28, with a total of four teams entered, including Goldthwaite, Dublin, and Benjamin, along with Albany.

Breckenridge Tournament

The Lady Lions won two out of three games in the tournament.

“This was a great tournament for us,” coach Tate Thompson said. “We won big in our first two games but came out very sluggish against Breckenridge in the third round. We got down early and had to try to fight back.”

Albany defeated Dublin 52-36 in the first round.

Jaleigh Morales was named the offensive standout, with Sarah Cotter picked for defense.

Scoring for Albany were Torie Fuentes 8, Brylee Moore 8, Cydney Nelson 2, Alli Hill 8, Carley Green 8, and Morales 16.

The Lady Lions posted a 57-32 win over TLCA in the second game.

Morales was again named the offensive standouts and Hill was tapped for defense.

Scoring for Albany were Fuentes 6, Moore 1, Nelson 2, Hill 17, Green 4, Morales 20, and Cotter 7.

Albany fell to Breckernridge, 36-25, on Saturday.

Hill was the offensive leader, while Fuentes was named for defense.
