By Donnie A. Lucas

The Lady Lion softball team split games last week, suffering the first district loss in Eula on Friday but getting back in the win column earlier this week.

The Lady Lions traveled to Cisco on Tuesday, bringing back a big 11-4 win to advance to a 9-9 record for the season. Details will bee reported next week.

Albany will host Gorman on Friday at 12:00 p.m.

The team is open next week because two district schools didn’t field teams this season.

The next game on the schedule is in Baird on Tuesday, April 13, which starts the second round of district play.

Albany defeated Cross Plains 13-5 on March 23.

“We need to start finding more consistency and play a more well-rounded game,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “Against Cross Plains, we hit the ball well but had some defensive lapses that allowed them to make a small comeback.”

Ana Balliew pitched all seven innings, allowing five runs on nine hits. She struck out five and gave up no walks.

The Lady Lions had their first district loss in Eula last Friday, falling 3-0 to the Lady Pirates.

“We worked ourselves out of some tough situations defensively, yet we couldn’t string together enough hits or get base runners into scoring range,” the coach said. “Getting back to playing a complete game on both sides of the ball needs to be our focus.”

Balliew pitched all six innings, allowing three runs on nine hits. She had one walk and one strikeout.
