Lady Lions finish season Tuesday
By Sam Waller
The Albany Lady Lions were the last obstacle between Stamford and the District 10-2A championship.
The Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 22 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 2A poll, were not to be denied, rolling to a 69-18 victory Friday, Feb. 3 at Stamford.
The Lady Lions (8-19 overall, 1-10 district) closed out their season Tuesday, Feb. 7, with a 43-25 loss at home against playoff-bound Anson. Details will be reported next week.
Stamford, which concluded its regular season Friday against Albany, assured itself of at least a share of the district title. The Cisco Lady Loboes, who won at Hawley on Monday, Feb. 6 in a weather-delayed game, needed to win Tuesday at Hamlin to tie the Lady Bulldogs atop the district standings.
Anson entered Tuesday with a one-game lead on Hawley for third place. Hawley visited Haskell needing a win to avoid a tie for fourth place with the Maidens.
At Stamford, Albany was held to just one field goal in the first half in falling behind 47-8. Stamford raced out to a 26-4 lead in the first quarter with six players making baskets.
