Lady Lions finish out basketball season at Anson

The Albany Lady Lions continued to struggle in the District 10-2A basketball race, losing 55-14 to Stamford on Friday, Feb. 2, in their final home appearance of the season.

The Lady Lions (5-18 overall, 0-12 district) concluded their schedule Tuesday, Feb. 6, with a 33-60 loss at Anson. Details will be reported next week.

Friday’s game was preceded by a brief Senior NightceremonywithKiana Roberson and Braylyn Abbate recognized.

The two seniors were joinedinthestartinglineup by junior Avery Everitt, sophomore Madi Parrott, and freshman Charlee Hefner, as coach Brad Stautzenberger continued building for the future with a team that has been mostly freshmen for the last month.

Stamford wasted no time in taking control of the game, scoring the first 17 points and leading 19-2 at the end of the first quarter. The margin grew to 24 pointsbeforeAlbanyscored its second basket, and the Lady Bulldogs led 30-4 at halftime.

Albany put together its best quarter of the night in the third, scoring eight points. Stamford closed the quarter on a 13-2 run to lead 49-12.

Roberson led Albany with six points. Parrott and Abbate each scored four points.
