Lady Lions to face Eldorado at bi-district

The Lady Lions locked down third place in the district race last week with a pair of victories at home, earning a spot in the playoffs Monday, Feb. 17.
Albany will face Eldorado in the bi-district game, set to be played at Bronte on Monday, Feb. 17 with a 6:30 p.m. tipoff. Ticket prices have been set at $4 and $2 with all regular passes accepted.
The Lady Lions (20-9, 6-4) ended up in third place in District 8-2A behind Haskell and Stamford, while Eldorado was the second place team from District 7-2A behind Christoval. The two teams played for the two top spots on Tuesday, with Christoval winning 48-19.
Lady Lions advanced as the second place team last year, beating Eldorado at bi-district, but falling to Sundown at the area round.
Albany closed out the regular season on the road with a 62-48 loss to the Haskell Maidens, the district champs.Details of the game will be reported in the next issue.
The varsity girls defeated the visiting Roscoe Plowgirls 45-43 in overtime on Feb. 4.
“We might have underestimated Roscoe,” coach Tate Thompson siad. “They came out ready to play, while we came out in sort of a funk. Despite that, I’m proud of the girls for finding a way to win.”
Jaleigh Morales was the offensive standout, along with Alli Hill for defense.

Scoring for Albany were Torie Fuentes 7, Cydney Nelson 8, Hill 8, Carley Green 7, and Morales 15.
Albany had much less trouble sending the Hawley Lady Bearcats home with a 46-28 loss last Friday in the girls home closer.
During parents night activities, Morales, a senior, was presented with a plaque recognizing her for exceeding 1,000 points scored over three seasons.
Thompson was happier with the results of the Friday night game.
“I think we got complacent that we made the playoffs, but in this game we were back to our old selves,” Thompson said. “I was extremely proud of the way that everyone pitched in and scored to win this game. We talked about everything that we do now is in preparation for the playoffs.”
The coach cited the entire team for their efforts on offense, with a total of eight players adding to the score.
Hill was again recognized as the defensive standout.

JV Loses Two
at Home
The JV girls were narrowly edged out by Roscoe last week, 24-21.
“We fell short in this game to an aggressive Roscoe team,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “Briley Tabor helped us out with a couple of three-pointers to keep the game close, and our defensive effort was great throughout.”

The JV fell to Hawley on Friday night, 25-20.
“It was a hard-fought game for our JV,” the coach said. “They hustled the entire game and had a great defensive effort.”
The coach added that she was proud of the level of play since the JV has only six players.
