The Lady Lions picked up a pair of easy wins last week, continuing to play District 6-2A teams  including the Moran Lady Bulldogs at home on Tuesday.

Albany came out on top in the battle against the Bulldogs 25-7, 25-9, 25-17. Details will be reported next week.

Head coach M.J. Reneau added a game to the schedule this Friday against Snyder. The varsity and JV will play here at 5:00 p.m., utilizing both gyms.

The Lady Lions will be on the road Saturday in Newcastle for a varsity-only bout starting at 10:00 a.m.

The local team will host Graham in a non-district contest on Tuesday, Sept. 15 starting at 4:30 p.m. with the JV II. The JV I will follow at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity game is slated for 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Lions are part of a district that includes a mixture of 1A and 2A schools, with district standings determining pairings in the playoffs later in the season. The 2A schools, including Hawley, Ranger, and Albany, will advance into the 2A playoffs, while the other schools will play in the 1A bracket.

The Lady Lions defeated the visiting Woodson Cowgirls 25-9, 25-7, 25-13 on Sept. 1.

“The girls looked like they were in good shape against Woodson,” Reneau said. “Our offense was strong, and we turned everything into an attack. I was proud of the way the girls transitioned on defense and free balls.”

Senior players were recognized prior to the Saturday game against Abilene TLC.

“We chose to have senior day early this season to make sure that we were able to honor them in case something happens that keeps us from finishing the season,” Reneau said. “There are eight seniors this year, and they all have special talents that they bring to the team. I am hopeful for a long season with them. They are a special group to me since I had them in the eighth grade, then came back for their junior and senior years.”

The team defeated TLC 25-4, 25-6, 25-0. They are currently 10-1 for the season.

The JV I earned a 25-10, 25-17 win over Woodson on Sept. 1.

“The JV I pushed through a slow game to beat Woodson,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “We had a few missed serves, but we overcame that by getting some great kills. We also passed the ball really well.”
