The Lady Lion softball team split games last week against a couple of the 1A members of the district, as the second round of league action got started.

Albany traveled to Stamford on Tuesday, bringing back a 7-0 loss. Details of the game were not available at press time but will be reported next week.

The local team will host Haskell on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and will also be at home on Tuesday, April 16 to host the Hawley Lady Bearcats at 5:00 p.m.

The Lady Lions lost to Eula, 18-6, on April 2, falling behind early and never recovering.

Despite the loss, Albany collected nine hits in the high-scoring game, but Eula got 16 hits to dominate the scoring.

“We continue to be a little inconsistent at times, so our goal needs to be to focus in on the things we need to do to work towards putting together a solid, full game,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “We have got to perform in situations where we need it to give ourselves a chance to win.”

Ana Balliew took the mound for four innings, allowing 10 runs on nine hits and one walk. She struck out two at the plate.

Sara Smith closed the game, going two innings with eight runs allowed on seven hits and one walk.
