The Albany Junior High Lady Cubs split a pair of volleyball matches against Hawley on Monday, Aug. 28, at home as the season entered its second week.

All three teams – Red, White and Silver – will be in action Thursday, Sept. 7 at Bangs in their first road matches. The Silver team will play at 4:30, followed by the White team. The matches will be Thursday because of the Labor Day holiday.

Albany will field three teams against Abilene Christian, Bangs, and Coleman, while just the Red and White will play against Hawley and Ran-ger. The Red and White teams will also compete Saturday, Sept. 16 in the Hawley tournament at Abilene Cooper.

Against Hawley this week, the White team won 25-13, 25-19.

“These ladies played exceptionally well with the amount of information we’ve put on them in the past week,” coach Lauren Peacock said. “They’re really working together and figuring out the transition, and it helped them be successful against Hawley. Kamryn Graham was solid in both sets with seven service points for us.”

The Red team lost 16-25, 10-25.

“Even though we didn’t come out with the win, there were some aha moments when we looked like a volleyball team,” Peacock said. “We struggled with our serving and were extremely inconsistent, but did some great things on and off the net that were impressive. Hawley had some talented jump serves that were difficult for us to hit back, and kudos to them.”
