The junior high basketball girls played both Haskell and Stamford over the last 10 days with mixed results.

Both teams are scheduled to play in the Breckenridge Tournament on Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 5-7. Game times had not been been announced at press time.

The girls will be on the road again next Monday to play in Hawley in games starting at 5:30 p.m.

The eighth grade team lost to Haskell at home 32-23 on Nov. 25.

“We started a little slow the first half but ended strong,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “Although we didn’t pull out the win, we still outscored them in the second half.”

The coach named Callan Edgar as the defensive standout with one charge, while Kiana Roberson was the offensive leader.

Scoring were Ashlyn Holson 4, Robin Lucas 3, Edgar 2, Maci Hatchett 2, Jaci Chapman 1, and Roberson 11.

The team shot 50 percent from the floor and 21 percent at the line.

The eighth graders defeated Stamford 27-22 on Dec. 2.

“The girls played a great game,” Wilson said. “Defensively, they did a great job pressuring the other team in their press and got several steals. We also did well finding the open person on offense and getting the ball to them.”

She said that she is pleased with the progress the team is making.

The eighth graders shot 36 percent from the field and 14 percent of their free throws.

The seventh grade girls tied Haskell 8-8 on Nov. 25.

“We tied in overtime,” coach Dakota Fowler said. “The girls played well and never gave up.”

Scoring were Abi Grace Hale 2, Makenna McNeill 3, and Caroline Holson 3.

The seventh grade picked up an easier win in Stamford Monday, beating the Lady Pups 27-8.

“The girls came out hard in the first half to score 15 points to their six,” the coach said. “Then we scored eight in the third quarter to their zero points. I love coaching and seeing these girls improve every day.”

Scoring were Holson 8, Avery Everitt 5, Kenzie Neve 2, Myleigh Leveridge 2, McNeill 8, and Ann Davis 2.
