Lady Cubs lose to Hawley

The Albany Junior High Lady Cubs volleyball teams suffered a pair of losses against Hawley on Monday, Aug. 29, in their first home matches of the season.

The seventh grade team was swept 8-25, 13-25. The eighth grade team fell in three sets, 25-18, 8-25, 5-15.

The Lady Cubs will be off Monday, Sept. 5 for Labor Day and resume play Thursday, Sept. 8 at Bangs.

In the seventh grade match, Charli Trail led Albany with five service points. Carsyn Clegg and Karlyn Thompson each had one.

Hawley used a 10-0 run to pull away in the first set and a 10-1 run to take control in the second. After Albany closed to 12-18, Hawley scored seven points to reach match point.

Albany survived the first set point in each set before Hawley won each.

In the eighth grade match, Hattie Braly, Zayne Lefevre, and Tatum Grady each had five service points. Ashlyn Miller had three and Brooke Richards had two.

Lefevre also recorded two kills and a block with Miller and Richards each making one kill.

In the first set, Albany ran off five consecutive points to take a 10-4 lead. Hawley closed to 17-15, but Albany regained control with a 6-0 run.

The second and third sets saw Hawley take control and keep it. An early five-point margin grew to nine and the Lady Bearcats finished with an 11-3 run. Hawley broke the third set open with a 7-0 run before scoring the final five points.
