The Albany Junior High volleyball teams split a pair of matches against Hawley Oct. 18 with the seventh grade Lady Cubs wrapping up their season.

The eighth graders played their final match on Tuesday against Strawn. Results will be reported next week.

Against Hawley, the eighth grade won 26-24, 25-21 to improve to 9-2 overall and remain undefeated in district.

“The girls played a solid team game,” eighth grade coach Missy Dutchover said. “They did a good job passing and setting up for hits. They once again had a good service game led by Averie Myrick.”

In the seventh grade match, Albany lost 25-14, 21-25, 16-18 to finish the season as district runner-up at 5-1.

Zayne Lefevre led Albany with 13 service points, followed by Hattie Braly with nine and Amber Miramontes with eight. Tatum Grady and Ashlyn Miller  each served for seven points with Leah Glick adding two.

“The girls played well against Hawley,” seventh grade coach Ginger Norton said. “They came up a little short but gave it their best. They will be even better next year.”
