Lady Bulldogs to start district

The Lady Bulldogs played three basketball games over the last couple of weeks, winning in Newcastle on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and then dropping matches on Dec. 20 and Dec. 30.
Newcastle
Moran held on to a close 30-29 victory over the Lady Bobcats.
“The girls jumped out to an early lead and never gave it up,” said head coach John Hughes. “Newcastle made it interesting towards the end, but the girls showed some grit and got it done. They now have three wins, beating their total from last year.”
Scoring for Moran were Johnnie Hise 15, Emily Murk 6, Reshaley Schafer 5, Dariann Hawley 2, and November Meredith 2.
Graford
Evenly matched most of the game, a scoreless second quarter cost the Lady Bulldogs a 26-30 loss to the Grayford Lady Rabbits on Friday, Dec. 20.
“Both teams played extremely hard; we just couldn’t get some shots to fall,” said Hughes. “The girls continue to improve with each outing, even though the scores may not show it. I’m proud of the work they are putting in.”
Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Hise 10, Meredith 7, Hawley 5, and Schafer 4.
Jayton
Moran hosted the Jayton Lady Jaybirds at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30,
“The girls played their first game in over a week,” said Hughes. “You could see the rust, but they battled through it. We lost, but we got game time in.”
The Lady Jaybirds won by a score of 48-15.
Scoring for Moran were Hawley 8, Chloe Hendricks 5, and Schafer 2.
Bulldogs
The varsity boys hosted Throckmorton’s Greyhounds to a nail-biter at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, but came up three points short.
Schedule
The girls traveled to Perrin-Whitt for their last non-district game on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Results were not available at press time, but will be reported next week.
District play for the Lady Bulldogs begins on Friday, Jan. 10, when they welcome Gordon to Moran for a 6:00 p.m. game. The Lady ’Dawgs stay in town for a match with Ranger on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Both the boys and girls head to Baird for games starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17.
Junior High
The junior high teams returned from Christmas break to take on the Greyhounds in Strawn on Thursday, Jan. 9 starting at 6:00 p.m.
The second round of the schedule begins on Monday, Jan. 13, when the junior high Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs head to Gordon for games at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.
