Lady Bulldogs split 2 games before break

The Moran Lady Bulldogs split a pair of home games last week, winning in their final outing before the holiday break, while the varsity boys teams suffered a pair of losses.

On Tuesday, Dec. 14, the Moran girls lost a heartbreaker 36-35 to Rotan, then defeated the Knox City JV 42-23 on Friday.

In boys action, the Bulldogs lost 50-28 on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at Mullin, then dropped a 54-30 decision on Friday to Ranger at home.

Both Moran teams will compete in the Gordon Holiday Ford Classic on Tuesday-Wednesday, Dec. 28-29.

The Lady Bulldogs will play two games on Tuesday, Dec. 28, taking on Gordon at 9:20 a.m. and Dublin at 2:40 p.m. Their opponent on Wednesday, Dec. 29, will be determined by Tuesday’s results.

The Bulldogs will play Gordon at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday with the rest of their schedule to be determined.

Girls Games

In the 36-35 loss to Rotan, Moran led 12-9 after the first quarter, but Rotan rallied to take a 19-13 halftime lead. Moran closed the gap to 25-23 in the third quarter, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Johnnie Hise scored 20 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs with Hannah Noble adding 10. Harmony Slaughter and Hannah Rogers each scored two points, and Emily Murk had one.

In the 42-23 win over Knox City, Moran trailed 11-6 after the first quarter and 17-13 at halftime before heating up in the second half. Moran went in front 30-19 with a 17-2 edge in the third quarter and continued to pull away in the fourth.

Noble finished with 16 points, and Hise added 12. Murk scored six points, followed by Alli Scott and Rogers with three apiece and Julianna Cottle with two.

“The girls played hard last week,” Lady Bulldogs coach John Hughes said. “We lost a tough one to Rotan but bounced back against Knox City JV. Now they get some well-deserved rest.”

Boys Results

In the 50-28 loss at Mullin, Moran fell behind 11-7 in the first quarter and trailed 23-15 at halftime. Mullin pulled away with a 17-4 edge in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 40-19.

Aaren Hawley scored 12 points to lead Moran, with Tyler Waddell adding six. Cotten Campbell and Ellis Hise each had four points, and Connor Hail had two.

In the 54-30 loss against Ranger, Moran trailed 15-7 after one quarter and 31-11 at halftime. Ranger led 45-20 entering the fourth quarter.

Caleb York led the Bulldogs with 14 points, followed by Waddell with eight. Hawley scored four points, while Hail and Hise had two apiece.
