The Moran Lady Bulldogs volleyball team split its two matches last week, defeating Rising Star and falling to Strawn.

On Sept. 14, the Lady Bulldogs beat Rising Star 25-5, 25-23, 25-18.

“We only had six players,” coach Jo Hise said. “Everybody had to play every spot, and they had to be out there for every serve.”

In the first set, Johnnie Hise had a 10-point service run and Emily Murk served the last five points. In the second set, Hannah Rogers served six points in a row, Hise had seven in a row and Murk five in a row. In the third set, Rogers served four consecutive points and Hise ran off eight in a row.

In the junior high match, Moran lost to Rising Star 21-25, 11-25.

On Saturday, Moran’s varsity lost to Strawn 26-28, 9-25, 4-25.

“The first set was beautiful,” Jo Hise said. “The girls worked really hard and fought for every point. We just came up short.”

The coach announced that the location for the Lady Bulldogs’ Tuesday, Sept. 28 match against Abilene TLCA has been switched to Moran.

Kickoff for the Moran Bulldogs’ home game against Lingleville has been moved up to 5:00 p.m. Friday because of the availability of officials.

The Bulldogs (0-3) were forced to cancel last week’s game against Mullin because illness left the team without enough players.

“I’ve got to ease those guys who were out sick last week back in and just make sure we get through,” Bulldogs coach John Hughes said. “We’ve still got one out sick this week.”

In Lingleville (2-1), Moran faces its third consecutive Division I opponent.
