Lady Bulldogs defeat Gustine in tourney

The Lady Bulldogs continued tournament play last week, placing third with a win over Gustine in the 2019 Strawn Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 31 after splitting matches with the Strawn JV and Early on Thursday, Aug. 29.

In their first match at 9:15 a.m., Moran defeated the Strawn JV team in straight sets, 25-15 and 25-14.

The Lady Dawgs came back after lunch to take on Early and ended up losing 9-25, 13-25 to the eventual tournament champions.

Moran returned  Saturday to play an 11:30 a.m. match. 

“We played for third place against the Gustine varsity,” said coach Jo Hise. 

Moran took the first game 25-21, lost the second set 21-25, and fought to win a close third set 26-24.

“The girls played hard and didn’t lose their momentum,” said Hise. “I’m very excited to see what district holds for us.”

November Meredith was voted to the All Tournament team.

Schedule

The Moran varsity volleyball team has a bye this week, so coach Hise, who required her volleyball squad to also be on the cross country team, took the girls to the Eula Invitational meet on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Results were not available at press time.

The high school team has a final pre-district match at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Moran, against Lingleville.

District play will begin on Saturday, Sept.14 at home against Ranger at 10:00 a.m.

The following week, Moran will travel for matches in Strawn on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and in Newcastle on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Moran plays in the combined 1A and 2A District 6 with Ranger, Strawn, Newcastle, Hawley, Albany, and Woodson.

Junior High Girls

The junior high volleyball team’s first match of the season will be on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when they travel to take on the Strawn Greyhounds at 5:00 p.m., followed by the varsity games.
