Lady Bulldogs advance to area volleyball playoff
By Sam Waller
The Moran Lady Bulldogs won a bi-district volleyball crown and will advance to the next round after defeating Three Way Tuesday night in Dublin.
The win came after deadline time, so details will be reported next week.
The area playoff against the Rochelle Lady Hornets is set for Saturday, Nov. 5 at Rising Star, starting at 3:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Last Week’s Games
The Lady Bulldogs improved their position in the standings last week by beating Rising Star in a district tiebreaker.
On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Lady Bulldogs dropped a playoff warmup match against Gustine 23-25, 17-25, 16-25.
On Friday, Oct. 28, Moran defeated Rising Star 18-25, 25-13, 25-20, 20-25, 15-10 at Cisco College to claim the second seed out of District 14-1A.
Lady Bulldogs coach Jo Hise said surviving in five sets gave her team a taste of postseason pressure as the girls prepare for their first playoff appearance since 2018.
“That match helped build endurance to fight through and finish each point because each point mattered,” Hise said. “It was important that we start off each set strong and hold it and keep our communication open.”
The coach said the key was being able to protect the lead once Moran went in front.
