The Moran Lady Bulldogs qualified four athletes in eight events to regional competition at last week’s area meet.

The area meet, held Wednesday, April 20 at May, matched athletes from Moran’s District 13-1A against those from District 14-1A. The top four finishers in each event advanced to the Region II-1A meet on Friday-Saturday, April 29-30 at San Angelo.

“The kids did well overall, with a couple getting some PR’s in some events,” coach John Hughes said. “Congrats to them all.”

The Lady Bulldogs finished fourth in the team standings with 70 points.

Alli Scott advanced in five events, winning the 100 hurdles in 14.47 seconds, 300 hurdles (50.19), long jump (personal best 16 feet, 10¾ inches), and high jump (5-0) in addition to running a leg on the qualifying 400 relay.

Scott, a state qualifier last year in the 100 hurdles, was selected the Big Country Player of the Week by the Abilene Reporter-News after accounting for 42 points at the meet. She enters regional ranked second in the state in the 100 hurdles, tied for second in the high jump, and fourth in the long jump.

Also qualifying for regional were Hannah Noble, who placed second in both the 100 (12.7) and 200 (28.8), and Emily Murk, who was fourth in the 800 (2:58). Murk placed fifth in the 400 (1:12) as well.

The 400 relay of Alayna Baker, Noble, Murk, and Scott finished fourth (54.9).

In the boys division, Moran’s 400 relay of Caleb York, Connor Hail, Tyler Waddell, and Arren Hawley ran its best time of the season, finishing seventh in 48.7.
