Albany students ages six to 11 are invited to participate in a golf camp Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 10-12, 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Albany golf course.

PGA golf professionals from the Abilene Country Club will be in Albany to give instruction during the three-day event.

The camp will be held at the driving range located behind the #8 green and #9 tee box at the course.

According to Ken Lawrence, the professional golf instructors will teach proper golf grips, swing and stance, chipping, pitching, and putting, along with golf etiquette.

There is a limit of 20 available spots, first come first serve, due to the size restriction of the local driving range. There is a $45 fee, but the Albany Kiwanis Club is providing scholarships to all those who need them, up to 20.

Once participants have signed up, all that is needed is for the kids to show up at the appointed time, said Lawrence, who is a member of the local Kiwanis Club.

“It is recommended that the kids come at least 15 minutes prior to the 9:00 a.m. start time,” he said.

When the camp concludes at 11:00 a.m., there will be no supervision for the children, so parents should make arrangements to pick them up on time.

The instructors will bring clubs for use during the day camp, but they may not have enough for all participants.

“If you have your own clubs, please bring them with you,” said Lawrence.

Registration sheets have been placed at the First Financial Bank and First National Bank lobbies, as well as at King & Robertson Insurance Agency.

“Since we are currently monitoring the COVID-19 virus, we support whatever decision you feel is best for your children,” said Lawrence, “but we wanted to provide this opportunity to get them outside and promote an interest in the game of golf.”
