JV undefeated after Stamford win

The JV Lions remain undefeated after rolling past the Stamford Bulldogs 34-6 in less than three full quarters last Thursday in Robert Nail Stadium.

The JV will not be traveling to Roscoe this week because the Plowboys do not have a JV team currently. Albany coaches set up a game with Haskell, which will be played in Hamlin about 6:15 p.m. following the Hamlin junior high games.

The Stamford game was called midway through the third quarter due to lightning, with the Lions leading.

“I thought that we looked real sharp on offense,” coach David Fairchild said. “We had a couple of series that didn’t look that good, but overall we played sharp.”

Barrett Beal opened the scoring on a 45-yard touchdown pass play from Cole Chapman. The two-point attempt failed.

Caden Price scored in the second quarter on a nine-yard run to put the Lions up by 12. The conversion attempt failed.

Malachi Gueldner scored on a 27-yard screen pass from Chapman, followed by a two-point conversion pass from Chapman to Beal.

Beal scored again on the next possession on a 45-yard pass play from Chapman. Price ran in the two-pointer.

Taren Farmer blocked a punt to set up the final score, with Chapman connecting with Cooper Fairchild for the tally. The conversion failed.

“Defensively, we played really well,” the coach said. “Luke Ivy, Bryce Asher, Caden Price, and Taren Farmer all had really good games.”

The coach named offensive standouts Ivy, Price, Chapman and Beal, along with offensive linemen Asher, Ty Everitt, Ryan Mark, Coy Knight, Koy Cauble, and Chris Hensley.
