The Albany Lions started their baseball season with a scrimmage on Friday, Feb. 18 and a JV game on Monday, Feb. 21.

This weekend’s Albany JV tournament, however, fell victim to winter weather, with coach David Fairchild making the decision Wednesday morning to cancel the event.

“We had an opportunity to get three more games this weekend, and that’s what we wanted to do, play baseball games,” he said. “It’s just unfortunate we can’t get that time on the field.”

Fairchild was able to add a game to the schedule. Albany’s JV will host Eastland at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28.

JV Details

Albany took 11 non-basketball players to Merkel for the scrimmage with six taking a turn on the mound.

“Our pitchers did well off the mound,” Fairchild said. “We struggled a little bit hitting, but Merkel struggled throwing strikes.”

The JV then beat Eastland JV 13-0 in five innings. Cole Read, Tyler Chapman, and Zane Waggoner combined on a no-hitter. Further details were not available.
