The Albany Lions junior varsity football team scored on offense, defense, and special teams Thursday, Aug. 31 in defeating Dublin 38-0 to open the season.

The Lions JV returns to action at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Seymour.

“I thought our backs ran hard, and our offensive line did a good job,” coach David Fairchild said. “Defensively, Breylon Billington, Ryan Turner, Brody Oliver, and Jaxson Street played well.”

Shawn Keen ran for two touchdowns, while Aaden Mendez had TDs passing and rushing.

The defense got things started when Braxton Henry recovered a bad snap by Dublin in the end zone for the first touchdown. Keen then recovered a fumble to set up a 43-yard touchdown pass from Mendez to Street for the second score.

Keen added a 5-yard TD run to give Albany an 18-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Jack Nail returned a punt 38 yards to push the lead to 24-0. Keen followed with a 12-yard scoring run with Mendez running for the conversion. Mendez scored the final touchdown on a 4-yard keeper.
